UHC’s Options for Transitional Relief Groups to Extend Coverage

Update Fri, Jan 20, 2017. UHC anticipates that the new Trump administration will extend Transitional Relief beyond 2017. UHC began offering Transitional Relief renewal options to groups renewing Apr-Dec 2017 that did not change their plan year in 2016 to Jan 1 as previously required by UHC and described below. Read our article for program details.

Recent CMS guidance extended a small group’s ability to keep their transitional relief plans through the end of 2017. UHC is offering options for affected groups to maximize the amount of time they can keep their existing plans before moving to ACA-compliant plans with community rating.

Jan 2017 Renewals. Groups that have a Jan 1, 2017 renewal date will be offered renewal options to retain their transitional relief plans through 2017. They can then move to ACA-compliant, community rated plans in Jan 2018.

Feb-Dec 2017 Renewals. Groups that have a Feb-Dec 2017 renewal date can chose to move their plan year to Jan 1, 2017, which will allow them to extend their transitional relief plans through the end of 2017. Groups must sign an attestation form and return it by Dec 1, 2016.

In order to help us keep our records current, please either send completed forms to your Kilpatrick service team for processing or copy a member of the service team when you send it to UHC.

Groups renewing in Feb-Dec 2017 that do not change their plan year to renew on Jan 1, 2017 will only have ACA plan options available at renewal. UHC will not offer short plan year options to these groups.
